Affordable Housing

Posted by Scott Foster on

Today (July 24) begins an 8-day intensive for my Doctor of Ministry program in Public Theology at Drew University. It will be great to hang out with our cohort and reconnect as we engage each other and challenge each other to live into this life following Jesus out into the public square. This is what we here at PCM call “community renewed” in our vision statement:

To see lives transformed, families strengthened, and our community renewed through intentional relationship with Jesus Christ.

We pray it every Sunday in church.

You may be aware that the Borough has signed a letter of intent to provide 40 units of new affordable housing on the property adjacent to the Madison Recreation Complex. About 2-2.5 acres is allocated for this new housing construction and there’s a big sign at the property right now inviting us to respond and weigh in during the month of August.

Comments can be submitted to Ray Codey, our borough’s administrator, before August 30.  Mr. Codey’s address is Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, 07940—or,  Also, send a copy to Morris County Department of Planning & Preservation, PO Box 900, Morristown, 07963-0900.

And if you’re able, come to the live hearing on Monday August 12, at Hartley Dodge, at 5pm and be heard.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:40—"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” And in Matthew 22:37ff “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

We are bound to take care of our neighbors. And I know you know who they are. This means stepping out of ourselves, out of our comfort zones, and speaking into the public square.

The Blog will be this posting until the week of August 12 when I return. I’m going away for this study leave and some vacation time, but I’m back to work in time for the hearing on August 12. I hope to see you at Hartley Dodge that day at 5.

It’s what we do.

Grace & Peace,
