Pause to Pray

Posted by Scott Foster on

Sometimes it depends on what day it is.
Sometimes it depends on which way the wind is blowing.
Some days I feel like I’m in a constant state of prayer.

And sometimes I go for weeks struggling to get a word out.

Sometimes I just forget because I’m too busy checking stuff off my list.
Are you feeling me?
Can you relate?

I hate to admit that I have actually put it in my calendar—like made an appointment with God. With an alert and everything!

Just to pray.

I woke up early this morning and thanked God for the rain.
I remembered!

But then I check the news and the high rise fire in London is horrible.
I pray for God’s mercy.
Then my Twitter feed blows up.

A gunman fires multiple rounds into a congressional baseball practice.

Baseball practice! At 6:15am! What the…?
The House Majority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise, is injured. So many others, too.

Pause to pray now.
Pause to pray now, please for the shooting victims.
Pause to pray now, please for the fire victims.
Pause to pray with me now.

Before your Twitter feed blows up.
Before your friends go off on your Facebook.
Before the politicizing and the political grandstanding.

Let’s pray…

Holy Spirit,

This is exhausting and it never ends! We always need you. And right now, we really need you. Come and calm this violent world. Come and bring us your peace. Instead of face-planting, come and let us rest our heads in your arms, Jesus.

God come and comfort the victims.
Come and comfort us all.

Grace and Peace,
